Section 20. Education Incentive Pay proqram 20.1 Purpose The purpose of this plan is to reward those eligible employees who have obtained a specific level of educational achievement in an area related to their job and, in so doing, have become better qualified to discharge the duties of their respective positions. 20.2 Eliqible Applicants Persons eligible to enroll in the Educational Incentive Plan have met all of the following requirements: ae Are permanent (non-probationary) employees with the City of Pleasanton. (Employees on probationary status as a result of promotions shall be deemed eligible under this plan.) Be Have met all requirements of their position as set forth in the City's Classification Plan in effect at the time the employee was hired. Intend to pursue an educational level related to his/her present position as determined by the Educational Standards Committee. De Ail new employees hired by the city after the date of adoption by the City Council of this revised Educational Incentive Plan shall be eligible for education incentive pay for eligible degrees or college credits earned prior to their date of employment at the time they reach the top step of the classification's salary range. NOTE: Job relatedness shall pertain to both the relationship of the field of study to the position held by the employee and, the relevance of the education level to the employee's position. 20.3 Education Standards Committee An Educational Standards Committee comprised of the PCEA President, Personnel Director and appropriate Department Head shall be established for the purposes of: Determining the eligibility of each employee to enroll in the Educational Incentive Program. Be Determining in advance of enrollment in the Educational Incentive Program the job relatedness of the educational level the employee intends to pursue. - 27 -
