Discussion of Proposed Alignment for the Iron Horse Trail (Dublin- Pleasanton BART
Station to Santa Rita Road)
Ms. Ventura advised that construction of the Iron Horse Trail segment between Santa Rita Road and Mohr
Avenue is nearly complete, and Ponderosa Homes will soon begin construction of the section from Mohr
Avenue to Busch Road. With these segments nearing completion, it is appropriate to determine the most
reasonable route to reach this new area from the BART station.
The Commission reviewed the three (3) potential trail alignments that had been explored by the Trails Ad
Hoc Committee, and were advised that Alignment 2A was the Committee's recommendation. Ms.
Ventura noted that while the Committee was recommending Alignment 2A, it also expressed concern that
this option not be perceived as the final trail alignment, and would like to see Option 3 pursued as a
permanent route; however, staff is recommending Option 1 as the preferred alignment choice.
Copies of a memorandum dated September 12, 2006 from Jim Townsend, East Bay Regional Parks
District Trails Development Program Manager, were distributed to the Commission. Within the
memorandum, Mr. Townsend clarified the District's position as stated to the Pleasanton Trails Ad Hoc
Committee on June 26, 2006, regarding the proposed alignment of the Iron Horse Trail through Hacienda
Business Park, from the BART station to Santa Rita Road.
Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes
September 14, 2006
Page 4
