.~~
II-
BkF

,
. I

.

1

~

~

In addition to those information we have already collected and studied, BKF will study the data
provided by the City to further understand the project and will perform a thorough research to collect
all other drawings, report, maps, and master plans related to the existing S-6 pump station.

In our preliminary search of the pump station site, record document revealed that the propeny is
apparently owned by the State of California. The site apparently has adequate room for a new pump
station and construction lay down area. BKF will research in detail to confirm the property boundary
of the pump station site, and assist the City to obtain more land for a new pump slat ion area if needed.

2.2. Perform necessary (and required) site investigation of the pump station S-6. Schedule with City
Utility Operations staff or others to perform any operational tests to determine operational extent and
condition of existing pump station's electrical, mechanical. pumping and piping systems, dry well
condition, air compressor system and overall pump station building capacities and functionality

BKF will revisit the existing pump station S-6 site and perform the following task:

. We will meet with the City staff, panicularly the utility operations staff. to funher understand the
condition and operation of the existing pump station.

. Together with the operations staff, we will perform operational tests to determine operational extent
and condition of the existing pump station's electrical, mechanical, pumping and piping system.
We will investigate the dry well condition, air compressor system, and overall pump building space
for possible additional temporary equipments.

2.3. Evaluate existing pump station operating criteria, capacities, operational constraints and known or
found deficiencies in order to determine what is necessary to keep existing pump station operational
in the future for the next three years. Develop recommendations for short term (up to three year
period) improvements needed for all existing pump station systems, structures and appunenances
fully operational until a new pump station can be designed and constructed while the existing pump
station is kept operational

The following are constraints and deficiencies known to us and steps we will take to improve the
existing pump station:

. We I/llderstalld that aile o{the existing 50 HI' pI/IIII' (1'111111' #3) has hem mlllpletely I/pgraded alld
call1l/eet prelly ml/ch the pealfl"'\' capacity. The sl'Colld 50 HI' pI/IIII' (PI/IIII' #2) has signs (J{
H'orn out, and cannot meet its designed capacity. We will evaluate and compare the henefil and
cosl effectiveness in order to determine whether to upgrade this pump or to install a new pump in
the existing wet pit with the intention of reusing this new pump, the VFD and possibly the
electrical control in the new pump slation.

. The existing pumps are presently being operated hy aging variahlt, .\pel'd dr;l'l' ,,'\'ifh a /Ill/1Il1ll1
switch to select I\'hich {llIlIIp to he tl/rlled 011. We will identify the possihle location
for Ihe new temporary VFD and further investigate this equipment with the intention to relocate it
to the fulure new pump station to save the overall construction cost.

2
