Standards for Street Landscaping and Other <br />General Public Right-of-Way Design Features <br />Acceptable Maintenance Responsibility <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />m <br /> <br />10. <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />12. <br /> <br />13. <br /> <br />14. <br /> <br />15. <br /> <br />16. <br /> <br />17. <br /> <br />18. <br /> <br />Plant selection shall encourage those species known to be reasonably drought <br />tolerant in the Pleasanton area. <br /> <br />State-of-the-art irrigation systems, designed and installed to City standards, are <br />required. Drip irrigation systems are encouraged in appropriate areas. <br /> <br />In general, areas less than three feet wide shall have hardscape. <br /> <br />Surface drainage from adjacent properties shall not cross City landscape areas or <br />sidewalks. <br /> <br />Landscaped areas adjacent to sidewalks shall be fiat for at least two feet. <br /> <br />In order to avoid competition between plantings and the added maintenance it <br />requires, aggressive ground cover shall not be planted in combination with low- <br />growing shrubs. <br /> <br />Plant material will be selected from the City Preferred Plant Palette List. The list <br />is not inclusive; other submittals will be considered. <br /> <br />If retaining walls are proposed within City maintained areas, they shall not exceed <br />3 feet in height, shall be constructed of masonry materials, and shah not exceed <br />50 feet in overall length. <br /> <br />A root deflection barrier is required for all trees installed within five feet of <br />sidewalks or paving. <br /> <br />Maintenance of subdivision identification signs shall be the responsibility of <br />property owner or homeowners' association. <br /> <br />Minimum container size for plant material shall be as follows: <br /> <br />Ground covers - 1 gallon size container for woody ground covers, rooted <br />cuttings (fiats) for herbaceous ground covers. <br /> <br />Shrubs - 5 gallon - at least 50%; 50% 1 gallon size <br /> <br />Trees - Container size may vary. Minimum 1" trunk caliper for standard <br />trunk trees, .75" caliper for primary leaders on multi-trunk trees. <br /> <br />The size of plant materials must correspond with that normally expected for <br />species and variety of commercially available stock in accordance with the <br />California State Department of Agriculture's regulations for nursery rules and rating. <br /> <br /> <br />
