Standards for Street Landscaping and Other
General Public Right-of-Way Design Features
Acceptable Maintenance Responsibility

Page 3

19.

If a planted ground cover is not provided, decomposed granite, 2 inches of
approved mulch, or another product approved by the City, installed with an
approved, fabric-type weed barrier, is to be applied to ground surfaces.

B. GENERAL STREET PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY STANDARDS

The extent of street landscaping to be accepted for City maintenance shall be no
greater than 15 feet from face of curb to edge of property.

Generally, slopes of landscaped areas shall not exceed 3 to 1. All sloped areas
shall be stable and nonerosive.

No fencing or soundwalls will be permitted within landscaped areas to be
maintained by the City. Additionally, concrete swales which are inaccessible by
vehicles shall not be permitted in areas to be maintained by the City. Other
amenities proposed for street landscaping intended for City maintenance will be
evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The minimum sidewalk width shall be 5 feet.

Where deemed necessary by the City Engineer, walkways shall incorporate a
bicycle/skateboard barrier installed to control safe bicycle/skateboard entry onto
sidewalks or streets. The design of the barrier should address aesthetic,
functional, and long-term maintenance considerations. A typical barrier may
consist of bollards, overlapping fence sections or other physical means necessary
to slow and reroute bicycle and skateboard traffic.

C. PREFERRED DESIGN CONCEPTS

$,r~t Landsca_oin~

Block planting schemes shall be encouraged to reduce competition between plant
materials.

If a ground cover is proposed for a median island, there should be a hard
surfaced, 18 inch edge around the median, sloped slightly inward~
