20,2 Notification Requirements <br /> <br />20.3 <br /> <br />20.4 <br /> <br />20.5 <br /> <br />A probationary employee shall be notified by the Personnel Director <br />forty-five (45) days prior to the expiration date of his/her <br />probationary period. <br /> <br />Within twenty-one (21) days prior to the expiration date of the <br />probationary period, the Department Head shall file with the <br />Personnel Director a statement as to whether or not the <br />probationary employee shall be retained in the position. <br /> <br />An employee who is not rejected prior to the completion of the <br />prescribed probationary period shall be deemed to have passed the <br />prescribed probation period automatically subject to the provisions <br />of Section 20.3 <br /> <br />Extension of Probationary Period <br /> <br />If a probationary employee is off work due to a leave of absence, <br />sick leave or disability leave or any combination thereof for a <br />period exceeding thirty (30) consecutive calendar days, said <br />employee's probationary period shall be extended automatically by <br />the length of said leave. The probationary period may be extended <br />by the Personnel Officer for a period not to exceed ninety (90) <br />days in order to further evaluate the performance of the <br />probationary employee. <br /> <br />Retection of Probationary Employee - Oriqinal Appointment <br /> <br />The City Manager may terminate a probationary employee during the <br />probationary period upon fifteen (15) days written notice without <br />right of appeal in any manner by the probationary employee. <br /> <br />Releotion of Probationary Employee - Promotional Appointment <br /> <br />Any employee rejected during the probationary period following a <br />promotional appointment or at the conclusion of the probationary <br />period shall be reinstated to a position in the class from which <br />he/she was promoted and at the rate of pay the employee would have <br />received had he/she remained in the former class. <br /> <br />Section 21. Promotion <br /> <br />Promotional or open-promotional examinations may be conducted <br />whenever in the opinion of the Personnel Officer the needs of the <br />service require. Only employees who meet the requirements set <br />forth in the examination announcements may compete in promotional <br />examinations. <br /> <br />Insofar as consistent with the best interests of the service all <br />vacancies in the competitive service shall be filled by promotion <br />from within the competitive service after a promotional examination <br />has been given and a promotional list established. <br /> <br />- 24 - <br /> <br /> <br />
