PROPOSED SOUTH LIVERMORE VALI.F-Y PLAN
January 4, 1991
Page 2

Plan Objectives

The South Livemore Valley Plan is intended to:

1. Promote the South Livermore Valley as a unique and historic Wine Region;

2. Take a proactive approach to protect and enhance viticulture and other active agriculture;
3. Preserve the area's unique rural and scenic qualities;

4. Minimize development on lands with existing vineyards and on lands suitable for viticulture;
and

5. Increase public recognition of the unique agricultural resources in the South Livemore Valley.

Specifically, the plan would foster, encourage, and promote:

1. Expansion of acreage in agricultural, particularly viticultural, use in the South Livemore Valley
from the current 1,800 acres to between 4,000 and 6,000 acres;

2. Development of additional wineries and other wine-country uses;

3. Justification for and collection of agricultural mitigation fees;

4. Formation of a land trust to protect productive and potentially productive agricultural lands;

5. Development of ongoing funding to promote the South Livemore Valley as a recognized wine
region; and

6. Removal of housing speculation value from productive and potentially productive agricultural
land.
