<br />8d <br />Proposed renovation of the existing athletic fields at Donlon Elementary School. <br />(SR 04:292) <br /> <br />Jim Wolfe, Director of Parks and Community Services, presented the staff report. <br /> <br />Warren McClung, RRM Design Group, reviewed the design that has been <br />supported by the various community and sports groups. <br /> <br />Mr. Brozosky asked if lacrosse could be played at anyone of the three fields as <br />proposed in the design plan? <br /> <br />Mr. McClung said lacrosse could be played on the two larger fields. <br /> <br />Mr. Wolfe pointed out the sports groups will configure its use to the available <br />space. As space is allocated to various leagues, the lines are painted on the <br />fields. He noted that the four-foot fencing near an existing walkway to the north <br />and south end to the school. The thought process was to try and get traffic to use <br />the parking off of Dorman. The idea of the fencing was to deal with the neighbors' <br />concerns to eliminate the traffic and parking along Payne Road and Denker <br />Drive. The Parks and Recreation Commission supported the basic improvements <br />and suggested that the decision for the fencing be deferred. The Parks and <br />Recreation Commission discussed sharing the cost of these improvements with <br />the School District. The Commission recommended that the City Council split the <br />funding for the improvements; two-thirds by the City and one-third by the School <br />District. The basic improvements include irrigation, grading, minor soil <br />amendments, and upgrading the water service to ensure there is adequate water <br />coverage, particularly during the warmer months. The projected cost for the basic <br />improvements is approximately $2.25 million dollars. The other portion of this <br />project is to consider putting in a subdrainage system similar to what was done at <br />Val Vista Park. Much of the cost associated with putting in a subdrainage system <br />is the importing of the soil. A subdrainage system would add approximately $1.8 <br />
