Consideration is being given to eliminating <br /> this position. <br /> <br />Several positions that are currently vacant and reflected as unf~led include a Street <br />Maintenance Worker, a relief Fife fighter, a Meter Reader/Utility Clerk, a Public Works <br />Inspector, one full-time and two pan-time Office Assistants, and a part-time Senior <br />Recreation Leader. Some of these positions may be f~led in the interim with temporary <br />or contract employees. Several other positions that are vacant but show as funded are the <br />Hazardous Materials Specialist, four Police Officers and a Water Systems Operator I that <br />was authorized in 10/92 but has never been filled. However, the Water System Operator <br />I position is currenfiy being reviewed and may be eliminated. In addition, a recently <br />vacated Police Captain position will be replaced with a Police Sergeant through <br />reorganization. At least seven employees are expected to participate in the early <br />retirement program that was recently offered at a cost of $325,000. If half of the <br />positions remain unf~led, the estimated savings in 1993-94 is at least $150,000. <br />Two new positions have been added to the recommended budget including a Housing <br />Development Specialist, to coordinate the City's affordable housing effort, that will be <br />funded by a transfer from the Lower Income Housing Fund for 1993-94.
