employee's immediate family or for bereavement <br /> because of the death of a member of the <br /> employee's immediate family. A maximum of <br /> forty (40) hours per year of sick leave may be <br /> used for this purpose. For purposes of this <br /> section, the immediate family shall consist of <br /> the spouse, children, parents, brothers, <br /> sisters, grandparents, or other individual <br /> whose relationship to the employee is that of <br /> a dependent. <br /> <br /> (a) The department head shall grant such <br /> leave and determine the amount thereof. <br /> <br /> (b) This provision does not apply if the <br /> family sickness or disability, or the <br /> employee's bereavement, occurs while the <br /> employee is on vacation. <br /> <br /> 4. A management and confidential employee <br /> eligible for temporary disabilitypayments may <br /> use accumulated sick leave in order to <br /> maintain his/her regular income, provided, <br /> however, that the employee shall be allowed a <br /> credit against sick leave to the extent that <br /> temporary disability payments are retained by <br /> the city. <br /> <br /> 5. In order to receive compensation while absent <br /> on sick leave, the employee shall notify <br /> his/her supervisor prior to the time set for <br /> beginning his/her daily duties or as otherwise <br /> may be specified by the department head. <br /> <br />B. Absences For a Regular Work Day or Longer <br /> <br /> When an absence is for an employee's regular work <br /> day or longer, the employee may be required to file <br /> a physician's certificate or a personal affidavit <br /> with the personnel director stating the cause of <br /> the absence. An employee may be allowed a sick <br /> leave deficit of twenty-four (24.0) hours. <br /> <br />C. Absences of Less Than a Regular Work Day <br /> <br /> Except for confidential employees, absences due to <br /> illness or disability of less than the employee's <br /> regular work day shall not be deducted from the <br /> employee's accrued sick leave balance. <br /> <br /> - 10 - <br /> <br /> <br />
