An employee eligible for temporary disability payments may <br /> use accumulated sick leave in order to maintain his <br /> regular income; provided, however, that the employee shall <br /> be allowed a credit against sick leave to the extent that <br /> temporary disability payments are retained by the City. <br /> In order to receive compensation while absent on sick <br /> leave, the employee shall notify the Fire Chief or his /her <br /> designee prior to the start of his /her scheduled duty <br /> shift. Said notification requirement may be waived by the <br /> Fire Chief or his /her designee to address personal <br /> emergencies. When the absence is for more than one full <br /> shift, the employee may be required to file a physician's <br /> certificate or a personal affidavit with the Fire Chief <br /> stating the cause of the absence. <br /> 14.3 Sick Leave Increments <br /> Charge for sick leave used shall be on the basis of one <br /> (1) hour for each hour used. <br /> Section 15. Leaves of Absence <br /> 15.1 Personal Leave <br /> The appointing authority may grant a full -time regular <br /> employee leave of absence without pay for a period not to <br /> exceed three (3) months. No such leave shall be granted <br /> except in writing stating the reasons for the requested <br /> leave. Upon expiration of the leave the employee shall be <br /> reinstated in the position held at the time the leave was <br /> granted. Failure on the part of an employee on leave to <br /> report to work promptly at its expiration or within a <br /> reasonable time after notice to return to duty, shall be <br /> cause for discipline. The Fire Chief may grant a full - <br /> time regular employee leave of absence without pay for one <br /> (1) calendar week. All approved leaves shall be reported <br /> to the Personnel Director. During unpaid leave, an <br /> employee shall not accrue vacation or sick leave benefits, <br /> nor shall said time be considered service time. Holiday <br /> in lieu payments for which an employee would otherwise be <br /> eligible shall be adjusted on a pro -rata basis to reflect <br /> an employee's leave time. <br /> - 17 - <br />
