computed at one and one -half (1 -1/2) times the employee's <br /> eight hour rate of pay in thirty (30) minute increments as <br /> set forth in the previous table. <br /> An employee having completed his /her regular duty shift <br /> and called back to work from home because of an emergency <br /> shall, upon reporting to work within a reasonable time <br /> after notification and commencing with the time of <br /> notification, receive not less than two hours overtime <br /> compensated at one and one -half (1 -1/2) times his /her <br /> eight -hour rate of pay, provided, however, that the <br /> maximum amount of overtime for which the employee may be <br /> compensated on any one day shall be one and one -half (1- <br /> 1/2) times his /her twenty four (24) hour rate of pay. <br /> An employee unable to work a scheduled shift due to <br /> illness or disability, shall not be eligible for overtime <br /> earlier than twenty -four (24) hours following completion <br /> of the scheduled shift. This prohibition shall not apply <br /> when an employee is able to return to duty prior to the <br /> end of the scheduled shift nor in emergencies requiring <br /> the recall to duty of off duty personnel. <br /> 7.2 Procedures For Filling Absences: <br /> When the Fire Chief or his /her designee determines there <br /> is a need to fill a position because of an absence, he /she <br /> may fill said position by acting assignment or on a rank - <br /> for -rank basis as the Fire Chief or his /her designee deems <br /> appropriate. However, if there will be or is less than <br /> fifteen (15) employees on duty in the areas covered by <br /> fire stations one through four, absences in the ranks of <br /> officer and fire engineer shall be filled on a rank -for- <br /> rank basis. Except in emergencies, only one acting <br /> captain and one acting engineer are permitted per shift. <br /> Individuals required to serve in an acting assignment will <br /> be selected from employees whose names are on a current <br /> promotional eligibility list and, in the case of officers, <br /> have completed successfully the departmental officer <br /> training program. <br /> If any employee of appropriate rank as noted above, is not <br /> available to work, then mandatory overtime within the rank <br /> will be implemented. In the case of an emergency and an <br /> officer and /or fire engineer is unable to be contacted, an <br /> acting assignment may be used to fill these ranks. <br /> - 11 - <br />
