minimum rate for the higher class; provided however, that <br /> such step is at least five percent (5 %) above his /her <br /> current wage rate. When an employee is demoted, whether <br /> such demotion is voluntary or otherwise, that employee's <br /> compensation shall be adjusted to the salary prescribed <br /> for the class to which he /she is demoted. The specific <br /> rate of pay within the range shall be determined by the <br /> City Manager, whose decision shall be final; provided, <br /> however, that the employee's rate of pay shall not be set <br /> at a lower rate of pay than he /she would have received had <br /> he /she remained in the lower class. <br /> Section 6. Hours of Work Shift & Station Assignments <br /> 6.1 Work Schedule <br /> The work schedule shall consist of nine (9) twenty -four <br /> (24) hour on -duty periods within a twenty -seven (27) day <br /> cycle to be worked in accordance with the following chart: <br /> X = 24 hour on -duty period <br /> 0 = 24 hour off -duty period <br /> XOXOX0000XOXOX0000XOXOX0000 <br /> 6.2 Exchanges of On -Duty Time <br /> Exchanges of on -duty time shall be permitted between <br /> employees of the same rank. An employee serving in a <br /> firefighter /paramedic assignment may only trade on -duty <br /> time with another firefighter /paramedic. Except as <br /> approved by the City Manager as provided under Section <br /> 16.6 exchanges of on -duty time shall not be permitted to <br /> substitute for, extend, or supplement sick leave, long- <br /> term disability or worker's compensation benefits. <br /> Requests for exchanges of on -duty time shall be submitted <br /> on the proper form to employee's immediate supervisor and <br /> shall include both signatures of the people involved and <br /> their immediate supervisor. There shall be no limit to <br /> the number of exchanges per month. The employees involved <br /> in the exchange shall make arrangements for the pay back <br /> of time. <br /> 6.3 Shift and Station Assignments <br /> Assignment to a specific shift and /or station shall be <br /> made through an annual bid system. Said annual bidding <br /> shall be effective the first full shift on or after <br /> January 1st of each year. Bids shall be made in <br /> descending order of rank beginning with the rank of <br /> - 9 - <br />
