Mary Griff'm-Laine, 420 Abbie Street, stated there is existing lighting for the field, but there is
no area for the children to play safely. She stated her concern over the height of the lights.

Vice Chairman Dove explained that even though the poles are higher and the perception will be
of a more lit field, the residents will not receive more light at their homes.

Commissioner Winslow asked if the plan for the park was acceptable to Ms. Griff'm-Laine. She
said it was, but she would like to see the play area built in the first phase.

Mark Jones, Director of Player Development for Ballistic United Soccer Club, stated this design
offers alternate scheduling for games by older players which would free up fields in the Sports
Park and allow moving approximately 800 youths into the Sports Park from Donion which has
inadequate facilities.

Bob Maas, 7942 Racoon Hollow Court, stated he represents Pleasanton Youth Soccer and
BUSC. He stated he thinks the project is extremely well laid out and thought out. He urged the
Commission to go forth and approve the plan. To show their support to the residents around the
park, upon approval of the project, they would entertain discussions take place where BUSC
along with Pleasanton Girls Soccer Association would talk to the City about expediting the park,
particularly the tot lot for the children, and they would work out some sort of financial
arrangement with the City so that the play area could be done in the first phase.

Steven Ping, 5038 Monaco Drive, stated he is on the board for the Pleasanton Hills
Homeowners' Association. Some concerns of the residents is the lights and noise. He urged the
Commission to use the best technology available for lighting and to limit the late play. He asked
that the noise be monitored and that the time for play be limited. Overall, he felt it was a good
plan if their concerns are addressed.

Brian Leonard, 4676 Helper Court, stated he is with the Pleasanton Girls' Soccer Association.
He expressed his enthusiasm for the proposed project and hoped the project would proceed
quickly.

Debi Patterson, 520 E. Angela, stated she would like to see the playground in the first phase of
the project and she felt it would mean a lot to their neighborhood.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER TESTIMONY, VICE CHAIRMAN DOVE DECLARED
THE PUBLIC HEARING CLOSED.

Commissioner Sedlak asked about the disparity in costs for Musco lighting and other
manufacturers and asked about the quality they would receive with Musco.

Mr. Zieger stated more could be spent for lighting, but it would not be an improvement, it
would just be a more ragged fixture which might be suitable for an arena.

Minutes
Park and Recreation Commission Meeting
March 9, 1995 Page 12
