Force at an earlier meeting: the golf element, the par course, two
tennis courts, the temporary parking lot, and the child care area
and showers from the administration building. All three concepts
addressed the addition of a bridge across Pleasanton Canal. The
three concepts' unique features were as follows:

Concept A 200' x 85' in-line hockey rink, one basketball
court, a lay area, an administration building, a
rest room building, and an open space/picnic area.

Concept B Two smaller 140' x 60' in-line hockey rinks, a
basketball area with four baskets, an open
space/picnic area, a play area, administration
building, and a rest room building.

Concept C Two full basketball courts, an open turf area, a
play area, an administration building, and deletion
of the rest room building.

Concept Reviews

· Task Force Review

Prior to placing this item on the Park and Recreation Commission
Agenda, a Task Force meeting was held to review the concepts.
Those attending the Task Force meeting supported Concept C for the
following reasons:

1. The Concept included moving the children's play area to a
more central location, thus eliminating the need for a
separate rest room and increasing the ability of the
project to be completed with funds available.

2. The uses proposed would increase the probability of the
proposed parking, along with the street parking, meeting
the park's parking needs.

3. The intensity of use appeared to be a level that
satisfied residents and tennis players.

4. The concept included two basketball courts which, if
aligned side by side, could meet some of the needs of in-
line skaters.

· Park and Recreation Commission Review

March 9, 1995, a second public hearing was held before the Park and
Recreation Commission. A large number of people in support of in-
line skating artended this meeting and spoke of the great need for
a place to skate. In particular, they noted that street hockey was
very popular and, at this time, there is no legal place for youth
(or adults) to pursue this sport.

SR 95: 142 4
