citizens were invited to continue to serve on the project Task
Force.

The recommendations from those attending the workshop and staff
were reviewed by the Park and Recreation Commission in a public
hearing held January 12, 1995. At that time, the Commission also
identified the great need for a facility to meet in-line skating
needs. The Commission raised the question of whether an in-line
skating rink would be an appropriate park element for Pleasanton
Tennis and Community Park. At the conclusion of the public
hearing, the Commission provided the consultant general direction
to proceed with the Master Plan concepts including the following:

· removal of the golf features (needs now being met by the
private sector);

· removal of two tennis courts to allow more program
flexibility, recognizing that a full tennis program could be
offered with 10 courts;

· removal of the temporary parking area on the. southwest side of
the park (street parking will be available on both sides of
the street, and the neighborhood preferred street parking to a
temporary lot so close to homes);

· removal of the par course due to lack of interest;

· modification of the building program by removing the child
care space and showers (offering child care is no longer
practical considering licensing responsibilities and the
availability of other child care facilities; showers are
considered a low use/high maintenance item that can be
eliminated without affecting program);

· investigate adding a bridge across the Pleasanton Canal at the
west end of the park to provide ease of park access to Valley
Trails residents;

· investigate the possibility of adding one or two in-line
skating rinks in the park; and

· investigate program modifications that would eliminate the
need for an additional rest room but provide the play area
adjacency to rest rooms.

Concepts Prepared by Consultant

Following the direction provided by the Commission at the January
meeting, the consultant prepared three concepts for the review of
the project Task Force and the Commission, Concepts A, B, and C.
All three concepts provided similar elements for tennis, a parking
area for about 70 vehicles, 4 handball courts, a full circulation
system, landscaping, and a maintenance building. All three
addressed the deletions recommended by the Commission and Task

SR 95:142 3
