VICE CHAIRMAN DOVE DECLARED TI-IE PUBLIC HEARING OPENED.

Tom Myers, 1757 Killdeer Court, Sunnyvale, owner of In-Line Sports in Pleasanton, felt in-line
skating has become the largest sport in the United States. He stated the standard dimensions for
an in-line skating rink is approximately 175-180 feet long and 75-80 feet wide. He discussed the
importance of borders in a rink and felt they should be about 4 feet high and that the cost for a
top-of-the-line border would be approximately $65,000.

Commissioner Seebach asked if a 60 x 140 rink would be usable. Mr. Myers stated it would be
usable but not as much fun for the kids.

Commissioner Sedlak explained to the audience the process which the skateboarders went
through to obtain a skateboard facility and the length of time which was involved. He felt it was
a good lesson in Civics for the students.

Chris Houdeshell, 303 Garden Court, Tracy, discussed the popularity of handball. He stated he
feels diversity in the park is a key element to make it successful. He supported in-line skating
but did not feel other activities should be sacrificed or cut back. He suggested looking at
finances before cutting the facilities for the other sports, and he also felt multiple uses should be
considered.

Tom Murphy, 498 Los Rios Court, stated he is a tennis player and also a proponent of in-line
skating. He has two children who enjoy the sport, but he strongly believes in-line does not mix
with tennis, as tennis is a game of concentration. He felt the skaters would probably skate on
the walkways which adjoin the tennis courts. He also felt in-line skating would generate more
traffic at the park and affect parking. Mr. Murphy stated he has been waiting 10 years for the
expansion of the park and now finds he has to defend the original Master Plan. He noted they
have already lost a couple of the originally planned tennis courts. Mr. Murphy stated the
process for the skateboard park took about 1-1/2 years and in-line skating just came up. He
feels an in-line skating facility should be done with proper planning and that it should not delay
the tennis park project.

Vice Chairman Dove asked Mr. Murphy if the heavy traffic on Hopyard bothered the tennis
players. Mr. Murphy responded the road is benned such that the movement is not direefly in
front of them.

Mr. Murphy also felt the liability factor with an in-line skating facility needed to be explored.

Mike Pirozzoli, 5925 Via Del Cielo, did not feel the public was aware discussion on in-line
skating would take place at the meeting. Regarding combining courts, he felt there would be a
conflict of interest as there would be people who might want to play basketball and others who
might want to skate. As for having standard sized courts for in-line skating, he stated the kids
are playing on the street now so he felt any court would be better than that.
