Section 18. Uniforms <br />Uniform Allowance <br />The Department shall provide at its expense required protective clothing and footwear. This <br />clothing will be provided on an "as needed" basis in order to maintain an inventory of three (3) <br />uniform pants minimum. For new employees the Department shall pay fifty percent (50%) of the <br />cost of original uniform requirements: three (3) shirts, three (3) pants, belt, boots, and any <br />other required uniform. <br />Uniform changes initiated by the Department shall be made at the expense of the Department. <br />All employees covered by this Agreement shall wear the same uniforms. <br />The annual uniform maintenance allowance for suppression personnel shall be $312.00, payable <br />on April 1 of each year; provided, however, that if the payment date follows by Tess than six (6) <br />months the date of appointment of such an employee, no such uniform maintenance allowance for <br />said employee shall be forthcoming until the succeeding annual payment date. <br />The annual uniform maintenance allowance for Fire Inspectors and Hazardous Materials <br />Coordinators is Four Hundred Forty Dollars ($440.00). The annual uniform allowance paid to <br />eligible employees is paid in two equal installments, once on April I and once on October 1 of <br />each year. <br />Section 19. Credit Union <br />The Department shall implement a voluntary payroll deduction option for those employees who <br />wish to join either the First United Services Credit Union or UNCLE Credit Union for the <br />purposes of transacting business with such First United Services Credit Union or UNCLE Credit <br />Union. <br />Section 20. Tuition Reimbursement <br />Regular employees are eligible for reimbursement of tuition expenses for college or university <br />courses successfully completed with a grade of "C" or better, provided said courses have been <br />approved in advance by the Fire Chief and are taken from an educational institution accredited by <br />the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. <br />Tuition is reimbursed in the amount up to, but not to exceed, the registration fees per college <br />quarter levied by California State University, Hayward for internal degrees in effect at the time <br />the employee enrolled in the course(s) for which the tuition reimbursement is requested. Eligible <br />fees shall be limited to: University Fee; Student Body Fee; IRA Fee; Facility Fee; University <br />Union Fee; Health Services Fee. <br />15 <br />
