Goals & Objectives Pleasanton Cultural Plan

Goal D: Programming

Rationale

To complement proposals for cultural facilities and public participation
contained in this Cultural Plan, the Planning Committee believes that a
concurrent strengthening of visual and performing arts program offerings should
also be pursued. While the City's Areadot Theater, Cultural Arts Center. and
cultural organizations offer a diversity of programs, there is a sense that some
"gaps need filling" to reach a broader cross-section of the community with a
more diverse slate of programs. Plan participants are also hopeful that new
efforts can be made to encourage cross-fertilization among arts and cultural
organizations spanning multiple disciplines.

It is also the intent of this goal that the City's arts community should reach out to
cultural sectors in Pleasanton including Sister Cities support groups, Alameda
County Fairgrounds events (e.g., Scottish Games), and the City's multicultural
communities (such as the annual program of East Indian events at the Areadot
Theater).

I Key to Objective Symbols: ~r - Priority * - Other => - Implementation Step I

Objectives
· Nurture collaborations among regional visual and performing arts
organizations (e.g., Valley Choral Society, Pleasanton Playhouse, Pleasanton
Art League, Classical Philharmonic, Livermore Amador Symphony,
Plcasanton Community Concert Band, etc.) to expand and enhance
Pleasanton-based programming including:

~ Public performances of school assembly programs, etc.
=> Reviving a children's theater program in Pleasanton
=:, Expanding coordinated visual arts programming such as monthly
Artwalks in downtown Pleasanton, etc.
=:, Development of targeted programs such as lunch time poetry, fine arts,
lectures, and other events at Hacienda Business Park

AMS Planning & Research 15
May 1998
