Because of the lateness of the hour, Chairperson Maas polled the Comn-tissioners with respect to <br />the rernainder of the agenda~ <br />Commissioner Arkin suggested that no additional items be heard after 1 1 :00 p.irt. <br />C7omnzissioner Blank noted that he would be willing to hear Item Ge._ PDR-496_ Citv of <br />Pleasanton ~LJelucchi Public Restrootri), but would prefer to continue Item 6.f. PRZ-30 Cit of <br />Pleasanton ~"Chicken" Ordinance. <br />Commissioner Fox requested that staff notify the speakers for Item Gf of its continuance. <br />e_ PDR-496, City of Pleasanton <br />Application for design review approval for the Delucchi Park Public Restrooms located at <br />4501 f=irst Street- Zoning for the property is PUD-OS Planned. Unit Development -Open <br />S pace, Downtown Revitalization, Corc Area Overlay District. <br />Ms_ Decker summarized the staff report and described the background and scope of this project, <br />which had been on the Capital Improvement Program for more than a year. The CJity C7ouncil <br />liked the more contemporary structure that had been brought before it, which would also be <br />easier to ir~aintain_ <br />Ed Noland, ELS Architects, Berkeley, noted that after discussions with City staff and the Parks <br />and Recreation Cornniission, the original building of 600 square feet had been increased to <br />approximately 760 square feet This would allow a plumbing chase for ease of irtaintenance, as <br />well as a artodcst janitorial storage room. He noted that this building was not overly obvious, but <br />because it was a public building it should be visible within the park. The building's west wall <br />was pushed as far against the transportation corridor as was comfortable; it was moved so that <br />the mature silver maple tree could be preserved. He noted that the masonry block wall would be <br />stained and sealed to prevent graffiti. He described the operating hours and noted that all three <br />restrooms would have diaper-changing tables- <br />Commissioner Blank noted that the fixtures in the men's facilities were very unattractive, and <br />did not believe that the citizens of Pleasanton deserved prison-grade fxturc s. Mr. Noland noted <br />those had been recommended by City support staff. <br />Commissioner Arkin also wanted porcelain fixtures. <br />Commissioner Fox agreed with Cotrimissioncr Arkin's and Cotriniissioncr Blank's assessment <br />and suggestion regarding upgrading the bathroom fixtures from stainless steel to porcelain. <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Fox regarding lighting, Mr_ Noland replied that there <br />would be electric lighting and that there were also openings along the window wall. <br />7n response to an inquiry by C'omrnissioner Blanlc regarding the maintenance schedule, <br />Mr. Noland coatirm cd that these restroonzs would be serviced daily.
