He noted that Mr_ Miller's suggestion of putting nine feet between the white lines would yield an 1 1 -foot space, including the one-foot-wide hairpins. In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Pox's inquiry whether some spaces on each floor __ could. be compact spaces, Mr- Miller replied that from a shopping center standpoint, they discouraged compact spaces. He noted that they preferred universal spaces and added that if a large car parked in a compact space, it takes up part of the adjacent space as well- THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED- Commissioner Arkin moved to make the variance findings for PV-138 as listed in the staff report and approve PDR-489/PV-138, su b_ject to the conditions of approval as listed in Exhibit B of the staff report, as recommended by staff with the modifications that- ~1) the applicant add conduit and pull strings to facilitate future installation of parking monitoring devices; ~2) the area between the sidewalk and the cars be landscaped with low plants to screen parked cars in the parking deck; and (3) additional seating be installed inside the common areas of the main mall building by the end of calendar year 2006_ Commissioner Blank seconded the motion_ MOLL CALL VO'l'E'_ AYES: Commissioners Arkin, Blank, Pox, Maas and Roberts.
