Item 6_c_ was considered before iterrx 6. d. <br />e_ Review and Comments I2e~ardin~: (1) Five Alternative Site Plans for the <br />"Central Area" of the City-Owned Bernal Property: and I2) Two Alternative <br />Site Plans for the Proposed Bernal Community Park <br />Wayne Rasmussen, Rasmussen Plarxxzing, Ine_, and Michael Fotherin gham, <br />M.D. Fotheringham Landscape Architects, Ine_, project consultants, presented the staff <br />report and described the purpose of the meeting. Mr. Rasmussen stated that the G'ity <br />Council has directed that the five site plans for the "Central Area" of the City-owned <br />Bernal Property and the two alternative site plans for the proposed Bernal Community <br />Park be forwarded to the various City commissions arxd committees for public review and <br />comments. They then described. the various alternatives in detail and requested the <br />Coxrxmission and the public to present their comments and input on these alternatives_ <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENI: D_ <br />Wendy Lee, 1536 Oak Vista Way, noted that the neighborhood had very narrow streets <br />and that she would like to see adequate parking area in the Downtown. <br />Chairperson Maas requested that "No Parking" signs be posted directly across frorrx the <br />Fairgrounds during events at the Fairgrounds. <br />I-l.B. Wilson, 5050 Blackbird Way, expressed concern about the loss of tennis courts <br />given the increase in Yleasanton's population. He noted that there was extreme pressure <br />on the existing courts and that only a £ew were lightcd_ <br />En>n Sringhurst, 1456 Oak Vista Way, noted that he was at the C7ity Council meeting and <br />stated that preferences of the different Councilmenibars_ As a Walnut Ilills resident, he <br />expressed concern about the land use in the area and added that when land for the cultural <br />arts center was removed from the area, the remaining regional wetlands would. not be <br />appropriate to recreate or walk dogs. He was concerned about noise coming from the <br />amphitheatre, particularly amplit3ed music. <br />Michael O'Callaghan, 125 West Wcal Street, Pleasanton Downtown Association, agreed <br />with Ms. Lee's comments. He expressed concern about the acoustics in the amphitheatre. <br />In response to Commissioner Fox's inquiry regarding which choice he favored, he stated <br />that the Pleasanton Downtown Association strongly Favored locating the cultural arts <br />center close to the Downtown. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED_ <br />C=omrrxissioner Fox agreed with the Pleasanton Downtown. Association and favored <br />locating the Civic Center towards Bernal Avenue, even if the sports fields and dog parks <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MIND"I'ES March 9, 2005 Page 7 of 10 <br />
