C7hairperson Maas agreed with Commissioner Arkin's assessment regarding the Santa <br />Rita Road McDonal d's, and while they may have more window area covered by signs, <br />the 25 percent only pertained to the Downtown area. <br />Mr. Pavan advised that he had been the original project planner for that McDonald's and <br />believed that signage was dealt with under the PUD development plan. <br />Chairperson Maas suggested talking with the management of McDonald's to express the <br />C ity's concerns about window coverage. <br />Commissioner Black suggested holding a community workshop to gather input prior to <br />the committee meetings. <br />Commissioner Roberts suggested holding the committee iricetings First and then follow <br />up with the public workshops. She suggested that Code Enforcement should be <br />represented on the committee. <br />Mr_ Pavan advised that the Hacienda Business Park had its own business park sign <br />program and. added that James Paxson was very good at implementing that program. It <br />was his opinion that the Commission should proceed carefully when dealing with existing <br />business park sign programs. <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Fox regarding signs in the public <br />right-of--way, Commissioner Roberts stated that was an issue for Code Enforcement. <br />Commissioner Arkin moved that staff return at a later meeting with sugg¢stions on <br />how to address this issu¢_ <br />Chairperson Maas seconded the motion. <br />Commissioner Fox would lik¢ to ensure that the issue be addressed on a city-wide basis- <br />Commissioner Blank wanted to ensure that the Commission did not box itself into a <br />corner and would like to retain the flexibility as a Commission to approach a business <br />owner if the business' signage was gaudy, even though it was within the guidelines. <br />ROLL CALL VOTE. <br />AYES: Commissioners Arkin, Blank, Fox, Maas and Roberts. <br />NOES: None. <br />ABSTAIN: None. <br />RECUSED: None. <br />ABSENT: None. <br />The motion passed. <br />~- Commissioner Blank and Commissioner Roberts volunteered to serve on the committee. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES February 23, 2005 Page 12 of 17 <br />
