designations. None of the Parks and Recreation Commission minutes ever referred to <br />land use designation changes for the private residences off of Vervais Street. It appeared <br />to her from past minutes that there was a separate thread of the Parks and Trails Master <br />Plan adopted after the Downtown Specific Plan was adopted. She did not believe these <br />properties had been discussed in detail_ She would like to have a discussion in the future <br />to avoid this from occurring again_ <br />In response to Commissioner Roberts' question whether the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission made land use designations, Ms. Nerland confirmed that it did not, although <br />it may comment on appropriate areas for parks. The recommendations for land use <br />designation would come from the Planning Commission to the City Council. She noted <br />that the discussions earlier in the day with the property owners concluded that if that was <br />not the direction of the City Council, the applicant should come forward with an <br />application to revisit the Specific Plan designation on the property. That application <br />would come before the Planning Commission for recommendation to the City Council. <br />She advised that the closed session was to discuss whether to acquire the property under <br />the proposed financial terms. <br />Commissioner Fox believed that even if only the DuClair property were the issue, there <br />should be a discussion about what to do with the Garibaldi property. She would like this <br />situation from recurring. <br />Ms. Nerland. advised that the Planning Commission may comment about designation on <br />adjoining properties and whether it would like the City to initiate a redesignation of the <br />property. She suggested that property owners call City staff if they receive land use <br />redesignation correspondence. <br />Alameda County Planninu Commission Letter <br />Commissioner Blar~lc inquired about the disposition of the letter draRed by the City <br />regarding this ostrich farm on Happy Valley Road. Ms. Nerland noted that the hearing <br />had been postponed several times and believed that the letter brought the issue to the fore <br />with other County departments as well_ <br />Shonnin~ Center at Honvard Road/Owens Drive <br />Chairperson Maas believed the shopping center where Burger King and Conroy Florist <br />are located was an unsightly £e ature of a City gateway_ She noted that the entire corner, <br />including the El Balazo sign, was unattractive and inquired whether it could be updated. <br />She noted that the landscaping had not been kept up. <br />Mr. Pavan noted that he had been at that location the previous month and noted that this <br />could be forwarded to Code Enforcement for sign inspection and whether it conformed to <br />the Pleasanton Municipal Code_ He noted that staff would look into this matter diligently <br />and would look into possible violations of the YUD. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES January 26, 2005 Page 15 of 1 7 <br />
