Commissioner Roberts agreed with Commissioner Kameny's comments. She expressed <br />concern about the roofline in the Larry Caxixion version that resembled the storage facility <br />across the street. She liked the "preferred variant". <br />Commissioner Sullivan believed that because the building would be located at an <br />entryway to the City, that the design should be held to a higher standard_ He believed that <br />the planning had dropped the ball in this area, and believed that the area should be part of <br />the East Side study_ He would like the extra two feet to be incorporated into the project <br />H¢ expressed concern that the sign may become larger, and did not believe it was very <br />attractive_ He liked Larry Cannon's version, and would like to see the LEED"rM checklist_ <br />He noted that he also liked the brown stripe, as well as the broken trellises on the back <br />wall_ <br />Chairperson Arkin liked the tower as designed by Larry Cannon, and believed that the <br />design standards at the City entryway should be higher_ He believed that the Planning <br />Commission must protect the general welfare of the community, and that the addition of <br />an auto body shop was secondary to that goal_ He did not like the horizontal brown line, <br />and liked the placement of the stone at the corners_ He liked the sectioned trellis as shown <br />in the "preferred variant"_ He did not have a problem with the size of the signage, as long <br />as it did not get any bigger_ He noted that the landscaping design was very nice_ <br />Commissioner Kameny suggested that the applicant return with a presentation reflecting <br />the "preferred variant"_ <br />Commissioner Sullivan believed that the design resembled a 1970s building_ <br />b. Gr¢Q and Nancv Crofton <br />Request for administrative design review approval of a 1,457-square-foot two- <br />story addition to an existing two-story house located at 4757 Peaceful Lane_ The <br />subject property is zoned PUD Planned Unit Development) -MDR Medium <br />Density Residential). <br />Mr. Iserson summarized the staff report, and noted that the applicants' next-door <br />neighbors, the Diaz's, objected to the project and requested a hearing_ The Diaz's were <br />concerned that the design would be too massive and out of scale with the neighborhood, <br />acid that their views and privacy would be impacted_ He noted that the applicants then <br />made several design changes, including hipping the roof and agreeing to plant a row of <br />trees between the two homes to screen the addition from their neighbors_ The Diaz's still <br />objected to the design, and staff forwarded the application to the Plai~ning Commission_ <br />Staff believes the design is reasonable, reflects the existing style of the neighborhood, <br />and is comparable to applications received and approved throughout Pleasanton_ He <br />advised that the FAR was within the limitation for the site, and that the addition was <br />contained within the existing building wall of the side elevation_ The City's landscape <br />architect has proposed a specific type of evergreen tree to be planted along the side <br />property line, which staff believed would be an excellent addition_ <br />PLANNING COMMISSION M1N [_1TES June 11, 2003 Page 6 <br />
