Mr. Wiest stated that there had never been a problem with the school, and
that they had been a good neighbor_ Staff recommended approval of this application as
conditioned_
THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED_
Ms_ Cheryl Weaver, 4466A Black Avenue, applicant, noted that her primary
responsibility as Executive Director of the school was that the children received a quality
education in a safe enviroiii2ient_ She fully supported the staggered drop-off times, and
noted that by 3 c 1 5, one-fourth of the students would remain in the extended care program_
She noted that the teachers would oversee the drop-offs and pick-ups, and that they
would work very closely with the families with respect to proper procedures. She added
that the families would be informed that pick-up and drop-off times were not an
appropriate time to visit with other parents.
Joe and Kathy Winston, 4673 Black Avenue, thanked the applicants for being concerned
about the children's safety. He noted that in the past £ve years, the school had doubled in
size, and inquired what would happen in the future should more students be added.
Commissioner Roberts noted that one of the problems in the area was that high school
students were picked up in the Post Off ce parking lot
Ms_ Weaver noted that the Lynnewood facility would be Flled after this expansion, and
that there would be no more students added in the office complex. She noted that iF the
school expanded beyond 205 students, they would have to leave the location for a larger
site.
Chairperson Arkin requested that if the applicant ever developed a master plan for the
facility, that it be shared with staff. Ms_ Weaver agreed with that request.
THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED.
Commissioner Roberts did not believe there was any problem with the expansion.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES June 11, 2003 Page 11
