In response to aii inquiry by Commissioner Sullivan, Kerry Burns, Fire Administration <br />Manager, noted that the two elevations were mailed to the residents after the meeting_ <br />Ms. Burns noted that they received feedback from the neighborhood representatives about <br />connecting the landscape area between the commercial center and the fire station to the <br />residcnis_ She expected the residents to state that they preferred that not occur, and that <br />they would like more blending. They requested guidance from the Commission whether <br />that should occur or not_ The neighbors were concerned about loitering in the area and the <br />possible infiltration into the neighborhood. <br />Mr. Iserson noted that the designs would return for a formal design review, and that <br />direction from the Commission was requested at this time to further shape the design. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED_ <br />Craig Moore, 1693 East Gate Way, noted that he preferred Option B, and that he liked the <br />look of a traditional fire station. He was not concerned about the pathway. <br />Donald Lee, 1698 Whispering Oaks, would prefer a barrier near the pathway. He noted <br />that the store sold liquor, and expressed concern about loitering and. littering_ He liked both <br />elevations. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED_ <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Sullivan, Mr. Van Cleeve confirmed that <br />Elevation B had the same color scheme as Elevation A. <br />Chairperson Arkin noted that Option A blended with the residential neighborhood more, <br />and that he preferred Option B before the meeting. He preferred Option A more aRer <br />seeing the presentation, and would like the following changes made to A: break up the <br />long roofline, such as by adding a turret to the entryway. He would like to see larger <br />windows, and would like to see some of the design elements from Option B added to <br />Option A. <br />Commissioner Maas noted that she originally preferred Option A, since that was what the <br />Commission wanted to see, but believed that Option B was very interesting and she now <br />prefers Option B. <br />Commissioner Roberts believed that Option B resembled a fire station from the 1920'x, <br />and that its design was very warm and interesting. She wanted it to have more light, with <br />appropriately designed windows. <br />Commissioner Sullivan noted that he preferred Option B, but could live with Option A <br />with dements of Option B_ <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES February 12, 2003 Page 7 <br />
