ROLL CALL VOTE
AYES: Commissioners Arkin, Maas, Roberts, Sedlak, and Sullivan
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: None
ABSENT: Commissioner Kameny
The motion carried.
6. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS
a. PUD-02-1 D, City of Pleasanton
Second work session before the Planning Commission to review and make
recommendations on the preliminary building elevations for Fire Station No. 4 of
the Pleasanton-Livermore Fire Department located on a 3.26-acre site Parcel "F"
of the Bernal Property Development) defined by Bernal Avenue, Oak Vista Way,
Mill Creek Place, and Whispering Oaks Way X1600 Oak Vista Ways. The subject
property is zoned PUD Planned Unit Development.
Jerry Iserson noted that the second draft visuals were based on the comments by the
Planning Commission and the desires of the neighbors to become involved in the process.
The architects were asked to redraft the design aRer meeting with the adjacent neighbors.
He noted that Option A had a more residential look with respect to the roof forms and
window treatments. Option A echoed the materials and colors from the adjacent
neighborhood. Option B had a more traditional fire station design.
Kirk van Cleeve, project architect, RRN Design Group, Oakdale, discussed the redesign
process that had occurred since the last Planning Commission meeting. He noted that
approximately 12 residents attended the neighborhood meeting, and that they were shown
various design examples and elements. The residents wished to see a residential scale, but
did not want to hide the fact that it was a fire station_ They wanted a defined entry and
materials similar to the homes. He described the design features of the two options_
Commissioner Roberts noted that the original designs had more pop-up glazing and glass
features to enhance the LEEDTM rating.
Mr. Van Cleeve noted that the apparatus bay doors would be mostly glass, and that 9t did
not have as many LEEDTM features as the original design.
A discussion of the roof and skylights ensued.
In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Roberts, Mr. Van Cleeve noted that the bolder
colors were chosen to blend with the nearby gas station, and to separate it from the
neighboring homes and highlight it as a fire station.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES February 12, 2003 Page 6
