It does not appear likely that the City could acquire the necessary permits/approvals, nor <br />coordinate the numerous logistical issues involved, to provide a fireworks display in 2005. Such <br />an action would also require a supplemental funding appropriation by the City Council, which <br />couldn't be considered until February at the earliest, further impacting planning for an event this <br />year. Staff shares Commissioner Kummer's enthusiasm regarding July 4th fireworks, but feel the <br />best location for such an event is a controlled area like the Fairgrounds. <br /> <br />It is recommended that the Commission support the on-going efforts of the Alameda County Fair <br />Board to promote a positive family atmosphere at the Fair, which could lead to constructive <br />discussions in the near future about resuming July 4th fireworks. <br /> <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br /> <br />Fan Ventura <br />Management Analyst <br /> <br />Attachment <br /> <br /> SR 7C <br /> Page 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
