11. To do a pyrotechnic show the size of the former Fairgrounds show on the Fourth of
July, Livermore's Old Fashioned Fourth of July or the San Ramon-Bishop Park show
is in the $27-33,000- range. Costs are based on the sizes and types of pyrotechnic
devices the City would like to use. If the Pleasanton show were choreographed to the
KKIQ music program as part of the local theme we'd probably Want to launch
comparable types and sizes of devices as the others. Each show has variability based
on the amount of money available to fund the presentation.

12. On the topic of costs, the City would have to consider the staff overtime cost to
provide fire inspections, fire suppression, police security, private security, public
works crews for barricade installations and removal, any needed clean-up on City
property, etc. Livermore's current experience is that the direct staff costs in
organizing, fielding and cleaning up from this type of event are in the range of
$40~000 plus the actual cost of the fireworks. Therefore this is an idea in the cost
neighborhood of $70~000.

13. We also should make it clear that any idea of raising money by selling "safe and
sane" fireworks as done in Dublin is prohibited by the Pleasanton Municipal Code.

14. Finally, based on the location of the show a number of the points Fan Venmra
identifies would be discussed. Security of the launch site is paramount. If the event
is "sponsored" at various sites around the City as noted in #9 above, Police concerns
about crowd issues, gangs, liquor consumption, traffic, noise, etc. are very critical
issues. A part of the Operational Order for the Livermore event includes these
elements; advising the neighborhoods about the event impacts, parking, traffic,
services (porta potties is a big one at event sites), security based on the scheme the
event takes, fundraising, fundraising sponsors, PR and advertising, etc. all come into
consideration.

15. Finally, to do this effectively, a committee of City staff including Public Works,
Police, Fire, Economic Development, City Attorneys office, event sponsors,
Fairgrounds management, etc. should be formed to represent their interests to insure
the event planning results in a successful and well 'supported event.

Let us know if you additional questions or concerns.
