Donald McKenzie, 790 E. Angela Street, expressed thanks for the extension of Angela Street
to Bernal Avenue. He also felt there should be a left turn lane to get people to go east on
Mirador Drive. He also felt Mirador Drive should be striped with a right and left turn lane.
He thought parking should be limited on Angela Street near Bernal Avenue because the three
lanes occupy most of the area.

Mr. Higdon responded to Mr. McKenzsie's suggestions and noted they have been taken into
consideration.

Frank DeVere, 831 E. Angela Street, expressed support for the application. He noted that
before the project started he had a number of concerns; however, in working with Mr.
Perreira he felt that his concerns were allayed.

Wayne Strickler, 851 Independence Ct., read a letter stating his support of the project.
Commissioner Horan asked Mr. Strickler how he felt about the open space as discussed

tonight. Mr. Strickler replied that he would favor the open space being open to all public
individuals, not just the adjacent homeowners.

Gary Scherwagerle, 189 W. Angela Street, suggested that the name "Phoebe" (phoebe
Apperson) be considered for a street.

Liz Cousins, 950 Clinton Place, expressed opposition to a traffic light installation on
Independence Court and did not think it was necessary. Mr. Pavan noted that it was
identified to be necessary in the ElR. Mr. Higdon commented that the light would probably
be green most of the time because of its proximity to Bernal Avenue.

Ms. Cousins stated that she has just moved from the Los Angeles area which is a concrete
jungle and she would hate for the beautiful hills to be taken away here. She asked if the
future homes could be moved further away from Bernal Avenue. Chairman Mahem advised
that on the south side of Bernal Avenue there would not be many homes seen as one drives
up Bernal. She indicated that most of the open space as seen now would still be there.

Bob Cordtz, 262 W. Angela, asked whether automatic sprinkler systems would be installed
in the homes. Mr. Pavan replied that they are not being recommended; however, fire
retardant roofs are being conditioned.

Andy Allerton, 1152 Hopkins Way, said he is a member of the Ventana Hills Steering
Committee. He was of the opinion that if the public has access to the open space that the
City should be responsible for maintaining it. However, if it appears that the homeowners
will be the only ones using the open space, then they should be assessed a maintenance fee.

Mr. Perreira returned to the podium. He indicated that he would work with staff regarding
the requests of Mr. McKenzsie. He noted that the automatic sprinklers as posed by Mr.

Minutes Planning Commission Meeting October 23, 1991
Page 15

-
