L MATIERS FOR COMMISSION'S REVIEW
8L Future P1annin!!: Calendar

Chairman Wright noted the second meeting in December has been canceled.

& Actions of the City Council

Chairman Wright inquired why Frank Abigana's application has been before the City Council
several times. Mr. Swift advised that the neighbors had appealed the decision of the
Planning Commission, that they did not want their appeal heard at the next available meeting
because some were out of town, and that Mr. Abigana was agreeable to postponing the
hearing because he was looking at other locations. It was postponed again because Mr.
Abigana was out of town. It is now scheduled for January.

Commissioner Hovingh noted the City Council approved the Metro 580 sign at 35 feet. Mr.
Swift stated that staff recommended a 35 feet height because it is the approved height in the
Hacienda Guidelines. The top of the sign was redesigned without the logo and is similar to
the Hacienda arch. Mr. Swift advised that the first tenant sign is at the 30 foot height.

k. Reauest of the Ple"~"nton Unified School District for a Determination of
Conformity to the General Plan of the ProDosed Hacienda Middle School Site

Mr. Swift presented the staff report regarding the Pleasanton Unified School District taking
the first steps in purchasing a lot (Lot 16A) in Hacienda Business Park as a school site.
State code requires that the School Board refer any acquisition to the Planning Commission
for determination of consistency with the General Plan prior to actual purchase. Staff states
that as the General Plan is currently written, a school is not consistent with the land use
designation of the property.

Mr. Swift noted there are two ways to handle this situation: change the land use designation
to a school designation or change the PUD to make a school an allowable use within the
Hacienda PUD. Staff is recommending that the Planning Commission find that the land use
is not consistent with the General Plan, and secondly, initiate a General Plan modification.
Staff will then generate a report describing the options, why this land is the chosen site, etc.

Chairman Wright and Commissioners Dove and Hovingh noted they had spoken with Peter
McDonald.

Planning Commission Minutes

Page 4

December 14, 1994
