Commissioner Hovingh noted churches can be built in R-I-65 rones. Staff stated churches
are conditional uses in any R zone.

Sherryl Dennis, 3768 Nichole Avenue, a resident in the Stoneridge Elementary school area,
read a prepared statement that the Stoneridge elementary school site is not a needed school
site whereas the Del Prado school site is a better option because it would serve more students
than would Stoneridge. Ms. Dennis does not want to see the Del Prado property sold and
advised she is willing to work with the City and the School District to get a school built on
this property.

Steve Vernon, 1134 Navalle Ct., is in the Vintage Hills area and asked the Planning
Commission to recommend the property remain designated as a school site.

Steve DuBose, 5760 Hansen Drive, has lived in the neighborhood for eleven years
anticipating a school would be built. He feels the land should either be a school site or a
park.

Robert Sauers, 2160 Camino Brazos, has lived in. Del Prado for twenty years, stated his
children had to pass Walnut Grove and go to Alisal, and believes Del Prado residents still
have to attend Alisal because Walnut Grove is over-crowded. Mr. Sauers noted his dealings
with the Park Department and how difficult it is to get practice time for baseball and
football. He stated Hansen Park is always in use. He would like the property designated for
school or park use.

Dave Griffith, 5622 Paseo Navarro, has been working to get a school built on this site for
over ten years and recommends the Planning Commission continue the designation as a
school site. Mr. Griffith handed out his analysis of the student demographics. He
summarized that the demographic reports used by the School District are inaccurate; noted
the school site was declared too small to build a school on (however, the Stoneridge school
site is two acres smaller than the Del Prado site); and charged the School Board has kept
Donlon and Walnut Grove schools purposely overcrowded in order to get state funding. Mr.
Griffith suggests the Stoneridge school be put on hold and a school be built in Del Prado.

David Lamont, 3583 Wingate Court, representing Valley Trails Homeowners Association,
asked that no funds be allocated to a park in Del Prado that would take away from the funds
recently allocated for the renovation of the park in Valley Trails. He also noted there are
eight acres in Valley Trails that would be perfect for a park.

Sally Hill, 6860 Corte Sonada, stated she feels the amount of money to be gained by the
School District is the most important issue to the School District. She stated a school has
been promised for the past 25 years, it would be the best option for the children of
Pleasanton, and she would like the Planning Commission to continue the designation as a
school site.

Planning Commission Minutes

Page 11

November 9, 1994
