Sue Evans, 5610 Paseo Navarro, stated she has worked for over ten years to convince the
School Board to build a school in the Del Prado neighborhood and asks the Planning
Commission not to change the designation on the school property. She noted the School
Board has always argued that this site was too small to build a school. Further, she advised
the estimated build-out number of students in the Stoneridge area is less than the number of
children currently in Del Prado. She feels a school should be built where the children are
now, and she also stated the School Board has been unwilling to review their facts and
demographics.

Kathy Rubin, 2256 Corte Melina, feels the school site should remain as such until the
demographic. numbers are more accurately assessed. She stated there has been a definite
increase in the demographics in the neighborhood over the past years.

Steven Ethier, 2298 Camino Brazos, inquired if the property was zoned PUD, would the new
houses resemble the surrounding residences. Chairman Wright advised if the property was
rezoned to a PUD, the developer would have to get design approval from the Planning
Commission before construction could begin. Mr. Ethier would prefer the property to stay
as an undeveloped field.

Julie Testa, 2825 Victoria Ridge Court and would like the designation to remain as a school
site. Her children go to Vintage Hills, and she has concern with the over-crowding problems
in that school. She feels Pleasanton' s quality schools are at risk.

Greg Evans, 5610 Paseo Navarro, feels the current situation is a result of the School Board
not negotiating in good faith with the people of Pleasanton. He noted the schools are over-
crowded and is determined to make the over-crowded school issue a City issue. He would
like to redirect the Stoneridge school funding to the Del Prado school. He wants to send a
clear signal to the City Council and the School Board that there should not be an elementary
school at the Stoneridge site; rather, it should be built at Del Prado. Furthermore, the
speaker feels the Del Prado site should not be rezoned in the General Plan and that it is time
for cooperation among all Boards in Pleasanton.

Christine Bourg is a teacher at Walnut Grove and a member of the General Plan Steering
Committee. She is upset that the plan is to keep Walnut Grove and Donlon schools over-
crowded. Examples of the over-crowding are the playgrounds are too small and the children
wait too long to play on the equipment, increased traffic problems with parents driving their
children to school, the third graders cannot have a program in one night because the Multi-
purpose room cannot accommodate all of the people, and the teachers and administrators
cannot get to know the children individually.

In response to Commissioner Hovingh, Ms. Bourg advised there are six modular buildings in
use at Walnut Grove.

Plaoning Commission Minutes

Page 12

November 9, 1994
