Commissioner Mahern commented that Hacienda Business Park already allows wall mounted
halo signs. Furthermore, if they allow Pleasanton Park to have intemally illuminated wall
mounted signs, then Hacienda may then want the same kind of signs. If the Commission
approved only wall mounted halo signs, Hacienda would not seek to change their existing
sign program. She also feels the Commission needs to direct staff to draft criteria for halo
illuminated signs.

Commissioner Wright wants to condition the approval that the signs be turned off at a
particular time such as 11 p.m. and turned on again at 7 a.m. Commissioner Michelotti
advised she wishes the on/off requirement be consistent with that required at other parks.

Commissioner Michelotti commented the criteria for the logo would be the same as that
proposed for letters. However, she would like the logo to be larger than the lettering.
Commissioner Hovingh wishes to extend the envelope of the sign in length but not height.
Commissioner Wright supports the use of a small logo without illuminated colors and to be
back-lighted at night. Commissioner Finch feels a two-foot logo is not an acceptable size.

Chairman McGuirk advised that halo illuminated signs are acceptable, however, the
Commission has differing opinions regarding what should be illuminated. He inquired if
staff could draft a plan for the signage. Mr. Swift stated that the reduced logo size
accompanied the internally illuminated signage. He advised that if the Commission approved
the use of halo signs as proposed, as well as the placement as proposed, staff could easily
modify the logo size to be consistent with signs in other business parks.

Responding to Commissioner Hovingh, Mr. SWift stated the Pleasanton Park Tenant/Building
Sign Criteria was part of the application package, and staff would review it to eliminate all
existing inconsistencies in the final approved document.

Commissioner Hovingh stated for the record that criteria AS, pg. 2.4, stating all signs should
be internally illuminated should be deleted.

A motion was made by C(lmmill.~ioner Mahern, seconded by Commill.'lioner Michelotti,
with the following modifications:

. Direct staff to draft sign criteria to include upper and lower case halo
illuminated wall mounted signs as described in the application.
. Signs to be turned ocr at 11 p.m. and turned on at 7 a.m. or as is
consistent with other business parks.
. Logo size to be consistent with the sign criteria of Hacienda Business Park.

ROLL CALL VOTE
A YES: Commissioners Hovingh, Michelotti, Mahern, Wright and Chairman
McGuirk
None
None
None

NOES:
ABSENT:
ABSTAIN:

Planning Commission Minutes

Page 5

November 10, 1993

..

.
