become burdensome to him. He noted that people are always . g around in his driveway
as it is now. He favored Commissioner McGuirk's suggestion of flipping" the area around
somewhat and said he would rather have lots backing up to him ra er than a street. He also
expressed concern that there would not be enough yard space for pIe with extra cars, and
that the streets seemed to be very narrow. He also felt there was ot enough time for the
public to address their concerns. He felt this was a "rushed" situa . on and that the
neighborhood meeting did not net anything. He further requested t if this project does go
through, that an eight foot wall be installed on his side of the stree .

David Gonsalves, 2215 Martin Avenue, said he reiterated Mr. Hu tt's comments and
concerns. He has lived on Martin Avenue for 13 years, has gone numerous meetings on
various projects in the area, and given input. He felt this develo r had not bothered to find
out what they want. He felt the staff report "glossed" over the pr blems with various
adjectives, thus minimizing them. He did not see how one area uld have 4,000 sq. ft. lots
while others were much larger, and feels this is not what "featheri gOO should look like. He
was in favor of eliminating some of the lots. He also expressed c ncerns that parking on
Martin Avenue would become a problem, and expressed concern r the people who run and
ride bikes there. He was not opposed to the school but felt it cou be on Stoneridge Drive,
and parking could then be on the proposed berm at the intersectio .

Chairman Mahern asked the public how many others concurred w th Mr. Gonsalves'
comments. About five other people raised their hands.

~

Herb Singleton, 2207 Martin Avenue, expressed concerns as to h w the landscaping would
be cared for. Mr. Swift indicated that the landscaping will be n care of by homeowner
associations. In response to a question about the startup of schoo construction, Mr. Swift
replied that the school district would like to start this year; howev r, this may not come
about as there are many issues that need to be worked out.

Mr. Singleton supported houses along the southern boundary of project and would move
the school and park site up farther. He also felt that the idea of " eathering" had been
stopped by someone, and that aesthetically "feathering" should be done. Mr. Singleton
further expressed his concerns about the possibility of the cul-de- c being opened to through
traffic, and was very opposed to that.

Mr. Gahrahmat returned and gave the background of the property He said he is more than
willing to work with the neighbors and would put up a six or eig t ft. soundwall or whatever
they wanted. He said he cannot do anything about the traffic sho ld a school be constructed.
He continued to say that he has worked diligently with the City p anners and is proud of the
project, but getting very tired of it all. However, he reiterated th t he is willing to work
with the neighbors.

mE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CWSED.

~

Commissioner Michelotti asked Mr. Swift to clarify comments ut the cul-de-sac. Mr.
Swift explained the City is trying to get the school district to ss off of Stoneridge Drive,
not Martin Avenue. However, the City has no control over wha the school district does.

Minutes Planning Commission
March 11, 1992

Paae 6
