<br />~ Commissioner Michelotti asked Mr. Swift to explain to the public e alternatives that the <br />Executive Committee went through to try and decide whether they uld make a different <br />plan or a feasible alternative to the one that came out of the full co mittee. Mr. Swift <br />called attention to the renderings displayed and reviewed each al tive that the committee <br />explored. <br /> <br />In response to a question from Commissioner Horan regarding mi' ation of the viewshed in <br />the Buffer Zone, Mr. Swift stated that nothing can be built on the 'dge, whether you are in <br />the Buffer Zone or whether you are in the Development Zone traIl er. The ridgeland policy <br />applies across the board to any new development; he said no struc can be built that will <br />break the ridge plane. <br /> <br />Chairman Mahern told the public they would take testimony; howe er, the Commission <br />would not be allowed to make any changes to the plan, but can mmend to the Council <br />whether the plan as it exists should go to the ballot or be sent bac to the committee. <br /> <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING W AS OPENED. <br /> <br /> <br />Paul Corrado, 151 Fairview Court, Pleasanton, presented a copy his comments to the <br />Commission and staff. He read his comments for the record, whi h urged that the <br />ridgelands be conserved. He concluded that Measure M was pas by the residents of <br />Pleasanton and that the Commission and Council should listen to e Citizens' Committee <br />Majority, as it is the voice of reason for conservation. He furthe defined conservation as <br />being the wise use of a resource. <br /> <br />Dan Anteriques of 2441 Kilkare Road, Sunol, stated that he felt Ridgelands Committee <br />was nothing but a government joke. He felt the government was ot trying to protect the <br />view, but trying to increase economic growth. He thought the bi est threat in regard to <br />development was the government within, not Hayward. He furth commented that the land <br />did not need to be sold to be kept safe. He spoke of how other of the Bay area have <br />already been destroyed and how necessary it is for therapeutic r ns to keep open-space for <br />the enjoyment of the citizens. He stated that people need a place get away from it all and <br />Sinbad Canyon is such a place. He urged that homes not be built in the ridgelands and <br />particularly in the area of Sinbad Canyon. <br /> <br />Bob Thompson, 4453 Club Wood Lane, Pleasanton, referred to a newspaper article stating <br />that the school district must cut out $1 million to balance its budg t for the next year. <br />About the same time he had read that the City would take on pro able lawsuits in regard to <br />the ridgelands, condemnations proceedings, neighboring jurisdicti ns, etc. He said he <br />cannot understand how the City has money to fund such activities but does not have money <br />to provide for schools. He also felt it was interesting that the Ci zens Committee could <br />decide it was appropriate to built 2,640 units in the ridgelands. e did not think this is what <br />people wanted who had voted for Measure M. <br /> <br />Minutes Planning Commission <br />February 12, 1992 <br /> <br />Page 15 <br />
