~

Brian Bourg, 4512 Second Street, Pleasanton, stated he had been a ember of the Citizens
Committee. He keeps looking at the ridgelands and sees it as a . ue open-space area. As
a science teacher, he would like to have the opportunity to take his students to see the
animals, birds, etc., that habitate the ridge. If developed, he felt t this unique wilderness
area would be gone forever. He felt that Pleasanton should work ith the neighboring
communities such as Hayward and with the :East Bay Regional Par District to preserve this
pristine area. He also felt strongly that the citizens of Pleasanton not want at least 8,500
people in the hills should 2,640 units be built. He further urged th Commission to oppose
any development in the hills.

Rick Dobbs, 3616 Portsmouth Court, Pleasanton, stated that he fel it was misleading for
staff to say there will be no development on the ridge. He con side any roads or lights
that might be built to be "development". He further stated that an development of Sinbad
Canyon should not be considered "planned progress". He was con inced that the plan as
presented was simply for the benefit of the property owners and th developers, not a plan
for the residents of Pleasanton.

Margaret Tracy of Livermore said she is speaking for the Board 0
Area Ridgelands Committee. She cited major problems with any
1) infrastructure; 2) a wide, ugly road; 3) 2,640 units was u
can develop; 4) destroying the natural beauty of the ridgelands; 5)
8-10 years on the City tax-payers; 6) development totally destroys
its beauty. She further stated that Pleasanton has a responsibility
communities to preserve this wilderness area. She urged that the
this plan.

Directors of the Preserve
elopment in the hills:
Ie and the Buffer Zone
the tax burden of about
pper Sinbad Canyon and
work with neighboring
ommission say "NO" to

Ms. Tracy further stated that she felt this item was placed entirely too late on the agenda.
In response to Chairman Mahem's question, about 30 people ag with Ms. Tracy's
comment.

Pat Stillman of Sunol stated that she is President of "Save Sunol mmittee". She felt that
development of the ridgelands only benefits Amador Land and Ca e Company and the other
developers. She felt the problems that development would bring ould include air pollution;
water shortages; and additional traffic. In addition, EBRPD's m r plan for the area would
be curtailed. She also stated that if Sinbad Canyon is developed, 'ldlife habitat will be
destroyed. Furthermore, should development take place damage County roads in Sunol
will take place. She also questioned who would be responsible fo picking up litter that
would accumulate with development. She stated that in 1983 ove 56,000 signatures had
been collected in one month in opposition to development, and sh assured the Commission
their organization would be willing to do the same thing again.

Patricia Thorstad, 4362 Second Street, Pleasanton, said she had
subcommittee.
