JOSH MCI(AY (soccer player)
· It's really hard to keep a team competitive (against the Mustang Soccer Club that has 4
lighted turf fields) when you cannot see your players feet. The grass is at ankle height and
the ball has trouble traveling through the grass. Getting turf fields would create tremendous
leaps and bounds for all athletic programs in Pleasanton.

· I now coach at USF and last season they laid the tu~ it's unbelievable what's it's meant to
our season. Usually by the end ora season the field is beaten up by overuse and moisture,
but the turf field remains consistent. There are a lot less injuries and players really enjoy
playing on this field. It would attract more players to Pleasanton.

GREG YOUNT (baseball coach)
· Pleasanton is supposed to be a first class community. To be a first class community you
need to have first class fields for soccer, lacrosse, and baseball. Currently, the fields at upper
Bemal have no bathrooms (just an outhouse), one has no running water, the other has a
drinking fountain that barely works.

· We really need to get this community park built with all the fields that everyone has
requested. On the petition, 4,600 people have demanded that these fields get completed.

SEAN LAMOIN

· I iust want to echo some of the sentiments spoken here tonight. It's imperative that all
sports are represented in the sports park with lighted fields. I also strongly encourage using
turf for those fields. I coach at Foothill High School, since they've implemented the turf fields
we've been able to get a lot more utilization out of the fields. Grass fields are so easily
destroyed.

· "All weather" grass fields were put in and those were shut down at the slightest bit of rain
so we really need to have tu~

UNNAMED RESIDENT
· A large population of adults likes to play tennis. There are only I 0 lighted courts in the
public facility. We have a severe shortage of lighted tennis courts. I work and have to play at
night. Often I'll have difficulty booking a court. I have to travel to Dublin or Meadow Glen
just to get a court.

· Since there aren't enough lighted soccer fields, soccer players are on the tennis courts with
their cleats, kicking balls into the tennis nets. This is why we need to have all these sports
represented in the sports park and the fields need to be lighted.

TOM
· I'd like to reiterate that all sports need to be represented with lighted sports fields and
tennis players need lighted courts too.

· We need to have sports for all ages. Tennis happens to be a sport that can be played by all
ages, really young to the elderly. It's not on plan but there's a great need for tennis courts.

Bernal Property Town Meeting I Summary Repor~-Apnl Ih 2005 Page 14
