SUMMARY: Plans and specifications were prepared for the subject project, bids have been received and staff is recormnending award of the construction contract to the low bidder, Fluoresco Light'mg and Signs Maintenance Corporation in the amount of $99,349.92. The objective of this project is to help uphold the City's image and provide monument signs at key entrance roadways for out-of-area travelers. Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council: BACKGROUND The Capital Improvement Program for Fiscal Year 2000 includes funding for the design, manufacturing, and installation of monument signs at key roadways entering the City. In November, 2002, the City Council approved a service agreement with Square Peg Design to perform specialty signage design and preparation of signage specifications for sign manufacturing in the amount of $14,700. On February 25, 2004, the Planning Commission adopted a motion recommending approval of the designed monument signage to the City Council. The proposed City gateway signage would be installed in the medians at the following locations: 1. Southbound Santa Rita Road at 1-580 eastbound off-ramp; 2. Westbound Stanley Boulevard before Valley Avenue; 3. Eastbound Stoneridge Drive at Johnson Drive; 4. Northbound Sunol Boulevard at Riddell Road; 5. Westbound Vineyard Avenue at Ruby Hill Drive; 6. Eastbound Bernal Avenue at Koll Center Parkway; 7. Southbound Foothill Road at Deodar Way; 8. Southbound Hacienda Drive at 1-580 eastbound off-ramp; 9. Southbound Hopyard Road at Owens Drive. The proposed gateway signage is a single-faced sign consisting of a fabricated aluminum monument base and a fabricated aluminum sign cabinet. The aluminum sign cabinet would be painted dark green, matching the Civic Center sign color. The sign cabinet has a wave design on top with the text "Pleasanton' in white routed-out letters on a black background. The letters and letter frame will protrude from the sign background creating depth to the signage. SR:05:108 Page 2 of 4
