SUMMARY: Plans and specifications were prepared for the subject project, bids have <br /> been received and staff is recormnending award of the construction <br /> contract to the low bidder, Fluoresco Light'mg and Signs Maintenance <br /> Corporation in the amount of $99,349.92. The objective of this project is <br /> to help uphold the City's image and provide monument signs at key <br /> entrance roadways for out-of-area travelers. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The Capital Improvement Program for Fiscal Year 2000 includes funding for the design, <br />manufacturing, and installation of monument signs at key roadways entering the City. <br /> <br />In November, 2002, the City Council approved a service agreement with Square Peg Design <br />to perform specialty signage design and preparation of signage specifications for sign <br />manufacturing in the amount of $14,700. <br /> <br />On February 25, 2004, the Planning Commission adopted a motion recommending approval of <br />the designed monument signage to the City Council. <br /> <br />The proposed City gateway signage would be installed in the medians at the following <br />locations: <br /> <br /> 1. Southbound Santa Rita Road at 1-580 eastbound off-ramp; <br /> 2. Westbound Stanley Boulevard before Valley Avenue; <br /> 3. Eastbound Stoneridge Drive at Johnson Drive; <br /> 4. Northbound Sunol Boulevard at Riddell Road; <br /> 5. Westbound Vineyard Avenue at Ruby Hill Drive; <br /> 6. Eastbound Bernal Avenue at Koll Center Parkway; <br /> 7. Southbound Foothill Road at Deodar Way; <br /> 8. Southbound Hacienda Drive at 1-580 eastbound off-ramp; <br /> 9. Southbound Hopyard Road at Owens Drive. <br /> <br />The proposed gateway signage is a single-faced sign consisting of a fabricated aluminum <br />monument base and a fabricated aluminum sign cabinet. The aluminum sign cabinet would be <br />painted dark green, matching the Civic Center sign color. The sign cabinet has a wave design <br />on top with the text "Pleasanton' in white routed-out letters on a black background.
