Mr. Siegle advised that of the six square foot per capita demand, half of that <br />comes from residential demand. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hovingh inquired if the project would be economically viable if it were <br />conditioned to serve just the immediate residential area. Mr. Siegle thought it may be <br />possible. <br /> <br />Commissioner Wright inquired of Mr. Carlson whether any of the studied storage facilities <br />were directly across the street from residential neighborhoods. Mr. Carlson did appraise <br />some sites directly across from residential areas, and noted the trend is to locate these <br />facilities near residential areas. With the current state-of-the-art construction, he sees no <br />impact on single family home valuation. <br /> <br />The following individuals sooke in favor of this aoolication: <br /> <br />Valance Gill, 474 Dolores Avenue, San Leandro, is a former mayor of San Leandro. He <br />spoke of his many concerns of the AAAAA facility constructed in San Leandro 27 years ago. <br />However, he can't remember any problems stemming from the facility, and it also won the <br />City's award for best architect and landscaping. <br /> <br />Dee Tolles, mayor of Menlo Park, spoke in support of the Knuppe family and their business <br />history. Mr. Tolles feels this is an attractive, well-funded project perfectly suited to the site. <br />He does not believe any financing is anticipated for this project. He noted that the Knuppes <br />have also built residential and commercial buildings, have received many architectural <br />awards, and have always brought in their projects on time and within budget. <br /> <br />John Faria, 2410 Lakeview Drive, San Leandro, is also a former San Leandro mayor. He <br />spoke in support of the Knuppe family and their business practices and their community <br />support. He believes the Knuppes will mitigate all of the neighbors' concerns. <br /> <br />Guy Bjerke, P.O. Box 5160, San Ramon, Staff Vice President of the Building Industry <br />Association of Northern California. He spoke in support of Jim Knuppe and noted he has <br />been a respected leader in the industry for years. He was elected in 1994 to the National <br />Building Hall of Fame. Mr. Bjerke commented that this project will cost approximately $3.5 <br />million and will provide hundreds of jobs. <br /> <br />John Steinbuch, 5000 Hopyard Rd., #180.
