Chairperson Roberts agreed with Commissioner Sullivan regarding the proximity of the
intersection to the freeway.
In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Blank whether the ATM would be adrive-through,
Chairperson Roberts confirmed that it would not feature adrive-through. He believed the use
was one of many appropriate uses, if properly designed.
Chairperson Roberts inquired whether the design was appropriate and added that she did not
believe it was an appropriate design. She had envisioned asingle-story building with a
residential-style roof and a woody appearance. She believed that the land was forced to conform
to the building, rather than the reverse.
Commissioner Sullivan agreed with Chairperson Roberts's assessment and mentioned the golf
course clubhouse as a good design example. He preferred aloes-profile design, rather than an
obviously commercial design.
Chairperson Fox believed that the building was too tall and did not like the flat roof. She
suggested that instead of working against the hillside with the retaining walls, she preferred a
more attractive entrance. She noted that similar buildings in Danville used some art elements
that worked with the hillside, such as natural stones or waterfalls cascading down steps.
Chairperson Roberts believed that a Japanese gazden design scheme would be attractive in this
area.
Commissioner Sullivan noted that he did not favor a lazge waterfall, such as the one located on
Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon. He believed that this application should be examined with
respect to the General Plan and the zoning update.
Commissioner Maas did not believe that the applicant had responded to the Commission's
wishes for this design. She had hoped that the design would have a more comfortable, less
sterile feel to it.
Chairperson Roberts noted that she liked the urban clean water runoff and the bioswales.
Mr. Pavan advised that the hillside located behind the site mentioned by Commissioner Sullivan
was designated by the PUD as permanent open space. He also requested that Commissioner Fox
provide a photo of the Danville site to Mr. Otto and himself. He added that he would be happy
to distribute those photos to the Commissioners.
No action was taken by the Commission.
The Planning Commission recessed for a break at 8:28 p.m.
Chairperson Roberts reconvened the meeting at 8:35 p.m.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, November 10, 2004 Page 8 of 14
