Commissioner Fox would like to see an azchitecture style other than Spanish or Mission, <br />perhaps aVictorian-style or country-style design, such as the yellow house across the <br />street. <br />Chairperson Roberts noted that she did not care for the design of the yellow house. <br />Commissioner Sullivan did not believe the large focal windows on the second floor were <br />in character with Mission Revival. <br />Chairperson Roberts suggested breaking up the windows with wooden cross-hatching. <br />She added that bougainvilleas would be a good choice for the building and requested that <br />the pomegranate trees be retained. <br />Commissioner Sullivan did not believe that illuminated signs would be appropriate for <br />this building. He suggested a sign like the one on the side of Towne Center Books. <br />Commissioner Arkin noted that he would like to see a signage plan. <br />Chairperson Roberts believed that aone-story design would work better. <br />Commissioner Fox suggested a partial story similar to that at 325 Ray Street in order to <br />_ reduce the square footage. <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Sullivan whether the Commission had <br />discretion in identifying the building use for retail or commercial, Ms. Kline replied that <br />the Commission did not have that discretion. <br />Chairperson Roberts noted that the Commission would like to reduce the square footage <br />of the building urd to have the design peer reviewed by Larry Cannon. The Spanish <br />Revival architecture was generally acceptable to the Commission, and more information <br />was required about the Downtown pazking situation. <br />e. PUD-37, Ron Winter <br />Application for PUD development plan approval for the construction of four <br />single-family residences and three apartment units at 520 St. John Street.
