MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
Stoneridge Mall
Commissioner Arkin noted that the fountain area at Stoneridge Mall has been converted
into an auto showroom and inquired whether they needed a permit for it. He inquired
whether the original use permit required that a fountain area be included.
Ms. Kline advised that in the original review of the mall, the interior was not addressed.
She believed they could change it, and she had spoken with Alice Waterman at the mall,
who stated that for the past year interior and exterior changes of the entrance had been
planned. They had decided to delay the interior changes until the following year, and in
the meantime, the mall was sold. The sunken seating areas, granite, and fountains were
all part of the original 1980s design, and they had decided to update it into more of a
lobby seating area for comfort and conversation. The fountain would be not be included
in the new plan.
Masse
Commissioner Maas inquired whether the owner of Ruby Sky in San Francisco had
purchased Masse.
Ms. Kline advised that George Karpati, the owner of Ruby Sky, had not purchased
Masse; he had been one of the owners of Sh-Boom. Sh-Boom would be transformed into
an upscale nightclub.
League of California Planners Institute
Commissioner Maas advised that she had attended the League of California Cities
conference in Long Beach and attended a seminar on mixed use. Instead of building out,
cities would be building up.
"Just Tires" Sienage
Commissioner Fox noted that the lettering for "Just Tires" was four feet tall and inquired
whether they were temporary.
Commissioner Maas noted that because "Just Tires" was a competitor to her family
business, she would not participate in the discussion.
Chairperson Roberts noted that it had originally been "Winston Tires" and the signage
was supposed to be a certain size.
Commissioner Fox advised that she was appealing the sign and had spoken with the
Dublin Planning Department, who would not have approved it. She believed it was out
of scale.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, September 22, 2004 Page 12 of 14
