Mr. Rasmussen noted that the lakes were reminiscent of those found in the major central <br />pazks. <br />Commissioner Kameny suggested that the civic arts building be located close to <br />downtown. <br />The Commission expressed some support for a dog park. <br />Plan #12 <br />A discussion of the sports field layout ensued and whether the location of the fields and <br />arts facilities should be switched. <br />The Commissioners generally prefenred the great meadow concept versus the planted <br />landscaping concept. <br />There was not an interest in a farmers' mazket competing with the downtown farmers' <br />market. The Bernal entries to the property need to be highly decorative. <br />Plan #14 <br />In response Mr. Rasmussen's inquiry, the Commission did not generally favor hops as a <br />landscaping design element. <br />Chairperson Roberts noted that they were part of Pleasanton's historical past but that they <br />should be used in a subtle way. <br />The Commissioners favored moving the civic arts building more toward town. The <br />Commissioners preferred that the amount of agriculture be decreased and the amount of <br />planted open space be increased. <br />A concern was expressed about ultra-modern azchitecture not working at this site. <br />Plan # 17 <br />The Commission preferred that there be fewer channels and more planting of trees along <br />the channels. <br />Regarding Submission #17, Commissioner Fox expressed concern that replacing <br />detention basins with detention channels would look like a collection of ditches. <br />The Commission did not favor berms or limited berms around housing. <br />There was some concern that the scale of the facilities on this plan was not accurate. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES June 9, 2004 Page 14 of 19 <br />
