THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED.
A general discussion on land use ensued.
Mr. Rasmussen noted that many comments had a preference for spreading the sports
fields out to avoid a traditional sports pazk look, but that would be inefficient for the
pazents and other users. He noted that it would also be inefficient for the City to maintain
the parks in that configuration.
Commissioner Sullivan noted that in Submittal # 14, the sports fields should be located
closer to the Downtown for a more passive look.
Commissioner Fox expressed concern that the noise from baseball games in the bowl
would travel to the residential neighborhoods.
Mr. Rasmussen noted that there had been mixed feelings on the Commission regarding
the extent of open space integrated into the sports fields.
Chairperson Roberts noted that the amphitheater would not be used every night.
Commissioner Fox advised that it was important not to impact the quality of life of the
residents.
Plan #2
Chairperson Roberts did not believe that a Pazk-N-Ride lot was necessary in Plan #2.
Commissioner Sullivan believed that the Park-N-Ride lot site might be useful someday.
Commissioner Sullivan would like to integrate the ACE train station into the site.
Chairperson Roberts suggested that a walkover be included to access the ACE train
station. She did not believe that a new train station was an urgent issue.
Plan #9
Commissioner Fox believed that there were too many tunnels planned and that one would
be acceptable.
Chairperson Roberts believed that too many tunnels could pose a danger and that the
tunnels under the freeway should be minimized.
In response to an inquiry by Mr. Rasmussen, Commissioners Sullivan and Roberts stated
that they did not like the manmade lake features; Commissioner Fox liked the lake
- feature as illustrated.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES June 9, 2004 Page 13 of 19
