Submittal # 12 - Nuvis, San Ramon, CA <br />This concept focuses on a major central open space area that includes a series of lakes. <br />Planning for the site recalls its historic past. Community facilities are interconnected <br />with a strong axial site planning relationship. Primary uses include eight sports fields in <br />the eastern half of the Central Area with a major open space feature in the western half, <br />civic arts center in the southern Central Area, train station centrally located between <br />Bernal Avenue and Valley Avenue, trials, farm club/gardening area, child care, <br />youth/teen center, environmental center, and Park-N-Ride lot/fanners' market. <br />Submittal #14 -Marta Frv Landscape Associates, San Francisco. CA <br />This concept emphasizes agriculture and open space with a condensed active sports azea <br />Primary uses include eight sports fields (some aze to be shared-use facilities) in the <br />northeast corner of the site, civic arts center situated along both sides of Valley Avenue, <br />trails, agricultural club and fields, regional azboretum, and interpretative pods. <br />Submittal #17 -Tom Leader Studio, Berkeley, CA <br />This concept is centered round a system of wetland/channels designed to replace the <br />existing storm water detention basins, surrounded by major contoured grasslands and <br />other meadow areas. Primary uses include eight sports fields along Bernal Avenue and <br />two sports fields just east of the freeway, train station in the northeast corner of the site <br />with a civic arts center to the immediate south of the station, trails, day caze, agricultural <br />crops, a teen center, and a wildlife education center. <br />- In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Maas, Mr. Rasmussen replied that each <br />architect lent his/her own "flavor" to each design. He noted that the comments by the <br />jury members were reviewed by each candidate. <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Sullivan, Mr. Rasmussen agreed that <br />sustainability would come through strongly in each design. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED. <br />Joe McAdams, 5754 Belleza Drive, thanked the City for providing the contestants a <br />chance to submit designs. He believed that sports activities aze an important part of <br />Pleasanton's community life. He would like to nominate Submittal #17 as being in the <br />best interest of the City. He supported a large amount of open space and did not believe <br />that the sports park should play a major part in the pazk; he would like to move the sports <br />area and the parking azea near Bernal Avenue at the western end. He suggested that one <br />or two fields be moved to the western side of I-680 to leave more open space on the <br />eastern side. <br />Austin Reed, 6041 Sterling Greens Circle, noted that he preferred Submittal #17 and <br />expressed concern about the potential for geese droppings in residential areas with lazge <br />bodies of water. He related his experiences living near Lake Elizabeth in Newazk.
