CONCLUSION

Staff believes that the proposed building renovation has been sensitively designed to retain the
historic character of the existing building. The changes to the exterior will match the existing
building in terms of materials, color, and detailing, and the site and interior changes will
increase the usefulness of the facility. The building will be brought up to code and make it safer
and more able to be used by Veterans and other community members. While there is still an
issue concerning the public restrooms, from a design point of view, staff is very pleased with the
proposed project and feels it will allow the building to continue to serve the community
functionally and as an historic resource.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Planning Commission adopt a resolution recommending approval of
Case PDR-402 to the City Council, subject to the conditions of approval in Exhibit B.

For questions please contact Jerry Iserson, Planning Director, (925) 931-5605 or Eileen Morley, Community Services
Manager, (925) 931-5346.

Case No. PDR-402 Planning Commission
Page- 7-
