17.700 Outdoor St~e. and .Billboards. 17,701 No person shall post, paint or othez~tse fasten any sign o~ any kind, £actng or visible £rom any public street in the City of Pleasanton, except as permitted by this Ordinance. 17.702 No sign shall create a traffic hazard by obstructing vision; or. shall interfere with any authorized traffic sign. 17,703 Set-backs (for all front yards) shall apply to signs and billboards, except that setback shall be increased as follows: For every square foot by which such signs or billboards exceed 80 square feet, add ~ Eoot, but not more than 60 feet. At the intersection of any State or Federal highways krlth a major or secondary thoroughfare, the setback of any billboard shall be at least 100 feet ~rcnn the established or planned future right-of-way of such highway or street. No free standing sign shall be erected ~rlthtn 500 feet of a State or Inter-State Freeway. 17.70~ No such sign shall be permitted which faces any R-District vithin 100 feet of such R-District or faces any public parkway, public square or entrance to any public parks, publlc or parochial school, library, church, or similar institution, within 100 feet thereof. 17.705 Permitted Sign Uses. 1. One non-illuminated real estate sign advertising the sale, rental, or lease of the premises not over 6 sq. ~t. in area shall be permitted. For each 10 feet additional lot width over 50 feet or t~o or mote contiguous lots in single ovnership exceeding 50 f~et. I square foot may be added to the area., but in no case shall such area exceed 30 sq. All such signs shall set back at least the depth of the required front yard. Not more than 4 additional tract signs complying vlth the above re- quirements may be located on each major or secondary thoroughfare surround- ing the tract, 2. Announcement or professional signs shall not be over 2 sq. ft. in area. A church, school, community center, or other public or institutional building ~ayhave for its ovnuse an announcement sign or bulletin board not over 12 sqo ft. in area, which shall be at least 12 feet from all street lines. 17.706 No sign or sign structure shall exceed 25 feet in height above existing grade, or 300 sq. ft. in area, except in the '~' or 'I-P' Districts. 17.707 Signs, moving signs, flashing lights and sign structures may be permitted for a set time period as a term of the conditional use permit in the various districts allotting signs. 36
