Page 3 of 8 <br /> <br />This grant meets Youth Master Plan 2 - Healthy and Safe Youth. <br /> <br />Cheza Nami Foundation Requested Funds: $7,500 <br />Black Excellence Project Tentative Votes: 11 for / 1 against <br /> Average Funding: $4,700 <br />Staff Recommendation: $4,400 <br />Program Description: <br />The Black Excellence Program, implemented in collaboration with Pleasanton Unified School <br />District, is a monthly program with the following objectives: create a space for students to <br />affirm their racial and cultural identities, build upon their sense of personal and academic self- <br />worth, and ground them in the Pleasanton Unified Black community through bolstering <br />children’s connection to the various cultures of the African diaspora, creating an affinity space <br />for Black children to connect with one another across school and age level, connecting with <br />positive role models, and accessing academic support. <br /> <br />Staff Comments: <br />The application and all documents were completed and submitted on time. With a request of <br />$7,500 and an estimated number of 45 youth and parents served in Pleasanton, the <br />cost per resident is $167. This applicant also has a request for $7,500 from the Civic <br />Arts Commission for the same project. <br /> <br />This grant meets Youth Master Plan Goal 1 - Prepared Youth and 5 - Supportive Families and <br />Communities. <br /> <br />Livermore Valley Opera (LVO) Requested Funds: $7,500 <br />LVO Education and Community Tentative Votes: 8 for / 3 against <br />Engagement Program 24-25 Average Funding: $3,475 <br />Staff Recommendation: $3,200 <br />Program Description: <br />Funding is sought to support performances of a reduced live opera for students at 10 <br />elementary schools in Pleasanton, presented by four professional opera singers and one piano <br />accompanist. In addition, a portion of these funds would be utilized to support master classes, <br />led by one professional opera singer and one piano accompanist, for chorus students at four <br />Pleasanton middle and high schools. All performances and master classes are provided free of <br />charge to participating Pleasanton schools. <br /> <br />Staff Comments: <br />The application and all documents were completed and submitted on time. With a request of <br />$7,500 and an estimated number of 4,000 youth served in Pleasanton, the cost per <br />resident is $1.88. <br /> <br />This grant meets Youth Master Plan Goal 4 – Youth-Friendly Environments <br /> <br /> <br />
